The Best Common-Sense Guide to Nutrition
ABOUT ME:
I was a sciences undergraduate at Oxford University when I was forced to cope with a severe digestive illness. As a result of this I studied Chinese Medicine for 8 years and have since recovered my health; my career in Acupuncture Therapy, Herbal Medicine and Nutrition is a happy result of this! Now I have over 20 years of experience as an acupuncturist and my clinic in Clifton, Bristol has been running full-time since June 2003. I am now also treating in Winscombe, North Somerset. Although I first focused on digestion, such is the power and versatility of acupuncture, herbs and nutrition that over the years I have treated back pain, arthritis, migraines, stroke, IBS, colitis, Crohn’s, eczema and psoriasis and many other conditions. I am also lucky enough to have been involved in a lot of fertility treatment.
I remain committed to education and on going professional development, having lectured and tutored at Bristol University Medical School and the College of Naturopathic Medicine. My dietary guide Be Your Own Nutritionist was published in January 2013.
When you come to my clinic there will be an initial assessment, followed by treatment with acupuncture, herbs or nutrition, alone or in combination. This treatment could be simple or could be complex but whatever your situation I will give you care, and a treatment plan that suits your needs. This may mean that we only meet once, or we may meet over an extended period. I always work with sensitivity to your resources, giving you a plan and plenty of advice. For back pain for example I may only need to see you 3 times because the stretches and exercises that I give you, combined with a healing balm, will do the rest of the therapeutic work. Similarly if you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome I will give you enough dietary advice and lifestyle strategies that most of your healing is done away from the clinic.
This is truly holistic medicine and the combination of acupuncture, herbs, healthy diet and lifestyle advice means that Chinese medicine is normally powerful and versatile.
For example it is now widely accepted within all forms of medicine that acupuncture is a pre-eminent treatment for pain relief, meaning that it is widely sought for conditions as varied as:
Back and neck pain, muscle spasm, sciatica, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, migraines, cluster headaches, sprains and muscle tears, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, post operative pain, plantar fasciitis and period pain.
Herbal medicine and acupuncture also tend to get quick results in the treatment of women’s health. Over the years I have successfully treated:
Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods), amenorrhoea (no periods), endometriosis, PCOS, infertility, IVF, menopause, PMS, cystitis, morning sickness and anaemia.
Similarly, my approach of integrating acupuncture, herbs and nutrition with lifestyle advice and education means that I succeed with stubborn complex illnesses like:
Tiredness, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, insomnia, stroke recovery, anxiety, depression and emotional difficulties, nausea, gastritis, reflux, dyspepsia and constipation.
My clinic is a truly therapeutic environment, tranquil, surrounded by trees with an on-site dispensary. Parking is easy with spaces freely available on the street outside with a meter requiring £1.
If you’re considering treatment, please feel free to call or email me first to discuss whether it’s right for you:
